So, I’m sitting in juvenile drug court for my internship and a kid I worked with in corrections comes in. It was quite ironic because he was reprimanded in court for missing school due to not waking up on time. I laughed to myself because he tried to not wake up in the correction center and after him being in the group for a month and continually getting up late I decided to show him who was boss.
I was working a midnight shift (for those of you that know me well you know that I turn into a beast from hell when I work midnight shifts) and this kid was not waking up. I turned on the lights, opened his door and yelled and he was being a defiant little puke. So, after 5 minutes I walked in the kid’s cell, grabbed his mattress and dumped him on the cement floor. I then boxed his ears and drug him out of his room. The other kids were laughing and I yelled at the little punk “Get up and be ready to leave on time or you’ll really see me angry! You pick!!!” Needless to say he scrambled to his feet and got ready for the day at an incredible speed.
He saw me in court and went a little pale and looked at the judge and said “Sir, I was reminded of the importance of waking up on time a moment ago, and I commit to better behavior.”
Either I am a motivator for positive change…or terribly frightening. Hmm…
