I'm in juvenile drug court for my internship and this 16 year old girl missed her UA (urine analysis) which means they treat it like a dirty UA. That means she qualifies for 2 days of detention and a restart of her sobriety days.
We get into court and she is brought before the judge with her mother and she starts crying! Balling and sobbing like a dang baby. She tells this outrageous story of how she called the phone number to see if there was a UA that morning and the message said "Please leave a message" which is unusual so she just thought there wasn’t one. So, since it didn’t Say "Yes, UA" or "No, UA" she didn’t call back and missed it. There is a 1% chance that she called while the message was being left and it might have said something like that.
I'm listening to this thinking most normal people hearing something not normal would call again, right?
Her mother starts throwing a fit about how the system is screwed up, etc. etc. The judge then put court in recess and went out in the hall with the probation officer. He comes back to court and says "Well, since there is a chance that she actually called, then no sanctions today. You can keep your sobriety days and not go to detention and you and your mom can have a candy bar. We don’t want you upset and crying now do we?"
Seriously!?!? The girl cries and he gives in!!!!!!! I was rather furious!
